What are body wraps and how are they beneficial?
First and foremost, body wraps are wonderful spa treatments for introducing the absorption of beneficial nutrients into the body – stimulating the lymphatic and circulatory system – boosting the elimination of toxins and fluid retention – and improving overall skin appearance. In addition, wraps can heal and soothe skin conditions such as dry skin, psoriasis and eczema.
There are many different wraps available, which primarily consist of seaweed, mud, clay and herbal solutions. The type of products used during the body wrap treatments differ with each Spa. In order to yield the best results, it is important that the products used are from a reputable source. For example, seaweed or seaweed infused mud that is derived from the Brittany Coast, or from the Provence region of France, among others, has been known to be of the highest quality.
Ask your licensed Esthetician or spa therapist which wrap is recommended for you, based on the conditions of your skin. They will also determine if a wrap is suitable for you, based on health conditions. Don’t be shy to inquire about the origin of the main ingredients. After all, any product being applied to the skin ultimately gets absorbed into your body.
What can you expect during a treatment? The spa bed is draped with clear plastic wrap and mylar, or cloths that have been soaked with an herbal solution. Mud or clay will be slathered on most of the body, and you'll be snugly wrapped in a cocoon. A heated blanket is a nice addition to encourage the body to perspire, which increases the effectiveness of the body wrap.
Once you are wrapped and comfortable, your Esthetician will usually leave the room for 20-30 minutes, allowing you the opportunity to relax and drift off to sleep. However, if you prefer not to be left alone, just inform them ahead of time.
At the end of the treatment, you will be unwrapped. Using warm towels, the nutrients will be removed and a nourishing moisturizer applied.
It is important to drink plenty of water following a body wrap treatment. A healthy diet and balanced exercise routine will further enhance the benefits of the treatment.
Please note that a single body wrap treatment will relax, detoxify and moisturize your body. However, if you are looking for more enhanced results, then a series of body wrap treatments is recommended.
Body wraps are a great way to leave you looking good… and feeling great!
